Do you want to understand how to meditate properly? If so then you have clicked on the right link. If you’ve little or no experience of meditation then at first it can be confusing as to know whether you are using the right technique. The advice below should help you empty your mind with much less effort.

To start with you should find a good teacher. Though it is possible to learn by yourself, most people find it easier, at least at the initial stage, to seek guidance of off someone with experience. This would allow for you to ask questions when confusion arises.

Find a location or room in which you will not be disturbed. This is important as usually meditation requires a peaceful atmosphere with no external distractions. Turn off your cell phone and close any windows. You may find it worthwhile to attend a meditation retreat such as a Vipasana center. Not only would you then have experts on hand to guide you, you would also be surrounded by like minded people and an energy conducive to releasing your mind.

One of the most common mistakes that meditation beginners make is to spend too much energy on their posture. It is possible to meditate in any position including standing or lying down. The primary consideration is to be comfortable. If you constantly have aches and pains when trying to meditate then this will distract your mind from the practice. The posture you choose should be comfortable for a prolonged amount of time.

Meditation is best practiced as often as you can to bring about the greatest benefits. If possible this should be each day. It is no different than other activities in that the more you do it the easier it will be. Over time it would become second nature and involve very little effort.

Learn how to relax your body and mind through correct breathing. When you close your eyes focus on your inhalations and exhalation rather than the thoughts in your mind. This should allow for thoughts to evaporate as soon as they appear.

Be aware that there are no hard and fast rules for correct meditation. Even those of us that have been using mediation in our lives for many years will not all practice the same meditation techniques. Try out a few methods until you find one that suits your location, lifestyle, and body. Whether you do your meditating at the start of the day or in the evening will depend upon your own lifestyle and preference.
